IdexIdex works inside your Shopify admin. Install it from the Shopify App Store, then open it from Apps. Setup takes a few minutes, and nothing on your products changes until you approve a fix. Prefer to follow along with screenshots? Read the tutorial.
What happens when you install
As soon as Idex is installed, it starts three jobs in the background:
- A readiness scan of your products, policies, pages and robots.txt. The scan only reads; it changes nothing.
- An order import of the last 60 days, to find the sales that came from AI assistants.
- IndexNow setup, so Bing hears about product changes. Idex adds one URL redirect to your store for it, which you can switch off. See IndexNow for Bing.
You can keep going while they run. Setup shows their progress.
The four setup steps
- Welcome. What Idex does and what it can access. Press Continue.
- What we found. Your sales from AI assistants in the last 60 days, your AI readiness score, how many products can be listed in Shopify Catalog, how many of the six AI crawlers can read your store, and the top three things to fix. If the scan is still running, choose Continue while it runs.
- Questions. The buyer questions Idex will ask AI assistants for you. Drag to reorder, untick to leave one out or add your own, then press Save and continue. See Buyer questions.
- First fix. Idex picks the quick fix that covers the most products (a category, category attributes or image alt text) and shows a few products before and after. Approve it, or choose Review in Fix Studio or Skip for now.
Skip setup is on every step. If you skip, Idex still keeps the suggested questions, and you can confirm them later from Home.
Home and the setup guide
After setup, Idex opens on Home. Its setup guide has three tasks, which tick off on their own as you do them: Scan your store, Confirm your buyer questions and Approve your first fix.
Home also shows your AI sales, readiness score, AI visibility and Shopify Catalog eligibility, and your top fixes ranked by impact. You can hide the setup guide in Settings.

What happens next
- Idex asks your buyer questions every Monday (UTC) on Starter, Growth and Scale, and on the first Monday of each month on Free. The first check is on the Monday after your question list is created.
- New orders are checked for AI assistants as they come in.
- Your store is scanned again every week, and after the fixes you approve are written to your store.
