How AI Revenue finds AI orders

How Idex tells which orders came from AI assistants, which assistants it recognizes, and what it can’t see.

AI Revenue shows the orders that came from AI assistants. Idex reads each order’s customer journey from Shopify, so there’s no tracking code to add. It only reads orders; it never changes them.

How an order is matched

Idex checks, in this order:

  1. Shopify AI channels. The order was placed inside an AI assistant, through a Shopify sales channel or app named after it.
  2. The customer’s last visit before the order: the site that referred it, its UTM source, and Shopify’s source for the visit.
  3. The customer’s first visit, checked the same way.

If none of these points to an AI assistant, the order isn’t counted.

Which orders are included

  • When you install Idex, it imports your orders from the last 60 days. New orders are added as they’re placed.
  • Shopify can take a while to finish an order’s customer journey, so Idex checks new orders again for several hours.
  • Test orders are ignored. Cancelled orders are left out of the totals, and marked Cancelled in Recent AI orders.
  • Point-of-sale orders have no online journey, so they’re never AI orders.

What the page shows

  • AI revenue, AI orders, Average AI order and Share of online revenue for the last 30, 60 or 90 days.
  • AI revenue by week. Weeks run Monday to Sunday (UTC).
  • By assistant: orders, revenue and share for each assistant or channel.
  • Top landing pages from AI: the pages AI shoppers arrived on.
  • Recent AI orders, linked to each order in your Shopify admin.

Amounts are each order’s total, in your store’s currency, when it was placed. Refunds and later edits aren’t subtracted.

What Idex can’t see

  • Google AI Overviews. Clicks from them look like ordinary Google search visits, so they can’t be counted separately.
  • Orders that Shopify has no customer journey for.
  • Visits between the customer’s first and last visit.
  • Cancellations made after Idex last checked the order.
  • Orders from before the 60-day import.
