Troubleshooting

What to do when a scan doesn’t finish, orders are missing, a fix isn’t applied or IndexNow can’t start.

Find the message you see below. If you’re still stuck, get in touch at the end of this page.

“The scan didn’t finish”

Shopify was usually busy or slow. Wait a few minutes, then press Try again, or Run scan on Home. If the message says Idex doesn’t have permission to read your products, reinstall the app to grant it.

“Waiting for Shopify to approve order access”

Shopify hasn’t given Idex access to order data yet. The audit, fixes and visibility checks already work. Once access is approved, open AI Revenue and import your orders again.

“The order import didn’t finish”

Press Try again on AI Revenue. The import reads the last 60 days of orders, which can take a while for busy stores. You can leave the page while it runs.

An AI order isn’t in AI Revenue

Idex can only count an order when Shopify’s customer journey for it points to an AI assistant. See what Idex can’t see.

“Your store is password-protected”

While your store has a password, Shopify Catalog can’t list your products, and AI crawlers and Bing can’t read your pages. Remove it in your online store preferences when you’re ready to launch: Open online store preferences takes you there.

A fix shows “Not applied”

Nothing was changed. Idex scans your store again and drafts the fix anew from the product as it is now, and a draft that’s the same as before shows why the last try wasn’t applied.

  • “This changed in Shopify after the draft, so Idex left it as it is.” Someone edited the field after Idex drafted the fix. The new draft starts from their edit, if one is still needed.
  • “Set the product category first.” The product lost its category after the draft. Approve the product’s category, then its attributes; picks you made carry over to the new draft.
  • “Shopify was too busy to take this change.” or “Idex couldn’t reach Shopify to write this.” Approve the new draft again in a few minutes.

Setup has no fix to approve

Idex drafts fixes after a scan. If the scan hasn’t run or didn’t finish, run it from Home, and fixes appear in Fix Studio when it’s done. If your products already have a category, attributes and alt text, there’s nothing quick to fix, and Fix Studio lists everything else.

“This month’s fixes are used up”

Your plan’s products for this month are used. Drafts wait in Fix Studio: approve them from the 1st of next month (UTC), or after moving to a bigger plan.

AI Visibility shows n/a, or nothing yet

  • n/a means there was no answer this time, or this month’s answer budget is used up. The question is asked again at the next check.
  • If nothing shows yet, your first check hasn’t run. It’s on the Monday after your question list was created, and the page shows the date.

IndexNow can’t start

  • “Bing can’t read the key file…” Make sure your store isn’t password-protected, then press Try again. Idex also checks again before it next sends pages.
  • “Idex needs permission to add a URL redirect.” Open Idex from your Shopify admin to approve it, then press Try again.
